Breast milk balm recipe

Breast milk is a vital food for babies because it provides the nutrients needed for their growth and development. But did you know that breast milk can also be used to make a nourishing skin balm?
This breast milk balm can be used to soothe sore nipples while breastfeeding, soothe irritated or dry skin, and even as a facial and body moisturizer.
In this article, we'll show you how to make your own breast milk balm.

List of necessary ingredients:

  • 1 cup of breast milk
  • 1/4 cup extra virgin olive oil
  • 1/4 cup shea butter
  • 1/4 cup beeswax
  • 10 drops of lavender essential oil (optional)

Detailed steps for making balm

  1. Start by sterilizing all the tools you will use to prepare your balm, including the bowl, whisk and final storage jar. This will help prevent bacterial contamination.

  2. In a saucepan over medium heat, heat the breast milk until it begins to boil. Then reduce the heat and simmer the breast milk for about 20 minutes. This will allow the breast milk to thicken and become creamier. Be sure to stir the breast milk occasionally to prevent it from burning.

  3. While the breast milk is simmering, melt the extra virgin olive oil, shea butter and beeswax in a double boiler. If you don't have a double boiler, you can melt the ingredients in the microwave by heating them in 30-second intervals, stirring between each interval.

  4. Once the breast milk has simmered for about 20 minutes, remove it from the heat and pour it into the melted mixture of olive oil, shea butter, and beeswax. Mix well until all ingredients are completely incorporated.

  5. If you want to add an essential oil to your balm, now is the time to do so. Add 10 drops of lavender essential oil and mix well.

  6. Pour the mixture into a sterilized storage jar and let it cool to room temperature. The balm will begin to solidify and become creamier over time. After the balm has cooled completely, you can close it with a tight-fitting lid and use it as you wish.

Advice :

  • If you don't have fresh breast milk, you can use thawed frozen breast milk.
  • If you want a thicker balm, add more beeswax. If you want a lighter balm, add more olive oil.

  • You can add other essential oils to your balm depending on your preferences. Tea tree essential oil is an excellent antiseptic and can help relieve skin problems. Peppermint essential oil can help cool the skin and may be helpful for insect bites.

  • Breast milk balm is a great moisturizer for dry skin and can also help soothe breakouts. It can be used as a facial and body moisturizer, especially for babies and children.

  • To keep your breast milk balm longer, be sure to store it in a cool, dry place. Avoid leaving it in direct sunlight or high temperatures.

  • Before using your breast milk balm, be sure to do a skin test to make sure you are not allergic to any of the ingredients.

  • If you don't have breast milk or prefer not to use it, you can use water or an herbal infusion as a substitute.

In conclusion,

Breast milk balm is a great way to use up the breast milk left over after breastfeeding. It is easy to make and can be used to soothe irritated or dry skin, as well as to relieve sore nipples while breastfeeding.

Using natural ingredients such as extra virgin olive oil, shea butter, beeswax and essential oils, you can create a nourishing balm for your and your baby's skin.

Remember to sterilize any tools you use to make the balm and do a skin test before using it. Try this breast milk balm recipe at home and enjoy the benefits for your skin and that of your baby.
